Porcelain Veneers

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin coverings that can be placed over your existing teeth. They are useful when it comes to cover flaws and minor imperfections that are causing you to feel badly about your appearance. Rather than go for more invasive cosmetic work, porcelain veneers are easy to make and place over the front teeth. They’re durable, so it’s common for porcelain veneers to last for upwards of 10 years.

Why are Porcelain Veneers needed?

The reason you might need or even want porcelain veneers is because you’re tired of the way that your smile looks. You might be attending a big event or have a wedding coming up, so you’ll want to look your best. Many people who have cracked, chipped, discolored, spaced and even jagged-looking front teeth may choose porcelain veneers as a way to makeover their entire smile. Porcelain veneers are great for otherwise healthy adult patients who want a dramatic change to their appearance.

Who is a candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

We first examine your teeth to determine if porcelain veneers are right for you. The front teeth need to be otherwise healthy and free of decay and other dental problems. Most patients who want porcelain veneers can safely have the procedure done at their own convenience. These porcelain veneers are durable and can be treated the same way you’d treat other restorations in your mouth currently.

What happens during the Porcelain Veneer procedure?

The procedure begins by filing down and smoothing the fronts of your teeth. This ensures a solid fit for the porcelain veneers and prevents them from looking too bulky. We then take detailed impressions of your teeth and use these molds to make the actual porcelain veneers. You will come in for a second appointment so that we can place the actual porcelain veneers. Once they’re placed, we will make any slight adjustments to them as needed. Most of our patients are in shock at how different they look with the porcelain veneers in place. You will have a full, white and healthy-looking smile that requires little maintenance to keep looking its best.

Who's a Candidate for Composite Veneers?

We can perform an examination to determine if you might benefit from composite veneers. Most patients who want this particular cosmetic option can safely have the procedure done in our office. You may want composite veneers because you’re tired of feeling badly about your appearance. Others may choose this option before a big event like a reunion, graduation or wedding.

What happens during the Composite Veneer procedure?

Little to absolutely no anesthetic is required in order to place the composite veneers. We begin the process by applying a bonding gel to the front of your teeth. We carefully match the composite material we’ll use to the color of your teeth. The material is placed over each tooth and carefully smoothed and detailed into place. We will then harden the composite material with a special curing light. Any adjustments are made at this appointment and you’ll experience a fuller, whiter and more beautiful smile. There are no impressions needed and you won’t need to come in for a second appointment.
