What are Traditional Braces?
Traditional braces have been used for many years and are a great way to straighten and perfect a patient’s smile. Many patients have severe orthodontic problems, like overcrowding, misalignment and malocclusion. In this case, other treatments may be ineffective at providing the care the patient needs. Traditional braces have been used as a go-to option for patients of all ages for years, and they work to correct even the most severe malocclusion and orthodontic problems.
Why are Traditional Braces needed?
Traditional braces are ideal for patients of all ages, including children, teens and even adults. We can help in determining if traditional braces are right for you and your orthodontic needs. Some reasons you’d need or want braces include:
• Under and overbites
• Open bites
• Uneven spacing
Who is a good candidate for Traditional Braces?
Traditional braces are often suitable for most patients seeking orthodontic care. First, we’ll examine your teeth and take x-rays to determine if this system is right for you. Younger children and teens often do best with traditional braces because they cannot be removed. Braces help in the case of severe orthodontic anomalies.
What happens during treatment using Traditional Braces?
First, we consult with you and take x-rays and impressions of your teeth. We devise a treatment plan that is specific to you or your child. We then place metal brackets on each tooth and use a wire to to help in the process of moving and shifting the teeth. Small rubber bands hold the wire in place and aid in the orthodontic treatment. You or your child will need to come into the office regularly for adjustments. The wire will be tightened and changed as needed, and the small rubber bands will be removed and replaced throughout the course of treatment. Treatment using traditional braces can take as little as a year to several years depending on the patient’s needs.
