Digital X-Rays

What are Digital X-Rays?

Digital x-rays are at the forefront of dental technology. These x-rays use a lower amount of radiation and the image is available immediately after the exposure has been done. This means less waiting time in the office and a more in-depth look at your dental health. Digital x-rays are often more comfortable than the older, traditional x-rays available.

Why are Digital X-Rays needed?

These digital x-rays allow us to get an in-depth view of your teeth and underlying bone. They are often needed when a typical examination isn’t enough. These x-rays can help us to identify areas that are infected or decayed as well as bone loss and impacted teeth. We recommend that x-rays be taken at most of your dental appointments in our office.

When are Digital X-Rays taken?

We often recommend having digital x-rays taken at the majority of your dental appointments. When coming in for a routine examination, x-rays help us to monitor and check for any apparent changes to your dental health. You may need to have x-rays taken prior to oral surgery or if you come into the office with an emergency or problem. These x-rays are safe and highly reliable at giving us a detailed view of your teeth and mouth.

What can you expect during the process for Digital X-Rays?

We first place a lead apron over your body to keep you protected. We then place a small device in your mouth and angle the x-ray machine at the device. We take the x-ray and see it immediately on our computer screens. The same procedure is done for other teeth within the mouth until all x-rays have been taken. These digital x-rays are incredibly beneficial to your oral and dental health. The process to take them takes just minutes and they will be used during your appointment to make note of any changes or intra-oral problems.

If you are in need of new x-rays and want to learn more about this digital technology, call us today and we can get you in for a convenient appointment.
